Electrolysis Didn't Work for You? Here's Why You're Still Seeing Hair
You may have heard someone say electrolysis didn't work for them. Or perhaps you've experienced it yourself: you finished treatments, but hair keeps appearing. Before you conclude that electrolysis has failed, consider these explanations.
You Stopped Treatment Too Early
This is the most common reason. Hair grows in three phases: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (rest). Electrolysis can only permanently treat hair that is in the active growth phase. At any given time, many follicles are dormant, meaning they'll produce new hair in the coming weeks or months.
A single treatment session might effectively destroy all currently active follicles, but dormant follicles will eventually produce new hairs. This is why a series of treatments over several months is required for complete clearance.
You Missed Appointments
Consistency is key. Regular appointments ensure that we catch each follicle during its active growth phase. Long gaps between sessions allow dormant follicles to cycle through without being treated.
You Were Tweezing Between Sessions
Tweezing removes the hair that we need to target. Without the hair present in the follicle, we can't effectively treat it. Between sessions, shaving is fine, but tweezing, waxing, and threading must be avoided.
You're Confusing It with Laser
Some people who say "electrolysis didn't work" actually received laser treatment, which is a completely different technology with different (non-permanent) results. True electrolysis, performed by a certified professional using a probe inserted into the follicle, has been proven effective for over 145 years.
Hormonal Factors
For clients with PCOS, menopause, or other hormonal conditions, the body may continue to activate new dormant follicles even after existing ones have been permanently treated. This isn't electrolysis failing; it's new hair emerging from previously dormant follicles.
The Bottom Line
When performed correctly and seen through to completion, electrolysis works. Every single time.
